Cinema Room Air Conditioning Installation in Chelsea

SAC Cinema Room Chelsea Football Club

We had an interesting project recently at the home of “The Blues” which was to install an air conditioning system for a cinema room. There are many reasons why a cinema room is an asset these days whether for training purposes, entertainment or analysis of sporting events. We think match replays will be the order of the day rather than blockbusters and popcorn!

Like all cinemas, the ambience and climate of the room is key to getting the best experience from the room space. This of course includes the air temperature. In addition to finding the right solution for the cinema room, we also had to consider the noise factor and work with the optimised acoustics and sound proofing of the room. We had to choose a system that would function efficiently with a whisper quiet operation and our experience in this area meant we chose the right system for the job.

A large cinema screen and sound equipment can generate a surprising amount of heat. This heat source combined with the body heat of the cinema occupants meant we had to build these factors into our calculations for optimum air flow and comfort. The number of people present at any given time in the room will vary, so this required a balancing act to ensure the air quality and temperature remained the same whether the room was occupied or not. This is the type of attention to detail that we pride ourselves on, which in turn allows us to deliver a professional job.

In a stylish cinema room, visual impact is also something to consider and we needed to supply discrete compact units that were unobtrusive yet able to deliver hygienic fresh air at the required rate and at the right temperature for ease and comfort.

“Our open plan office houses around 100 people. Air distribution and draft was an issue for some of them prior to fitting air deflectors. Since the fitting we’ve not had a single complaint!”

How we got here

Air conditioning is known to have been applied in Ancient Rome: aqueduct water was passed through walls of houses to cool them. In medieval Persia similar techniques involving the use of cisterns and wind towers were used in the hot season to cool buildings.

Modern air conditioning emerged after advances in 19th Century chemistry, and it was Willis Haviland Carrier who invented and first used a large-scale electrical air conditioning system in 1902.

Air Conditioner Definition

An appliance, unit, system, or machine designed to stabilise the temperature and humidity of air within an area (used for both heating as well as cooling). A refrigeration cycle is the most common method of achieving this although sometimes evaporative coolers are used for comfort cooling inside buildings and vehicles.

Fujitsu Console Unit Installation In South West London

Fujitsu Console Unit Installation in Conservatory

Often not thought about when constructing a conservatory is the temperature of the room and how to control it. There is so much advantage to having a conservatory as it gives an extra room, somewhere to relax and is a pleasant place for company or for contemplating life. In winter, a conservatory can be chilly but can also be warmed by the sun naturally and in summer a conservatory is naturally warm but can reach very high temperatures. For example, with an outdoor temperature of 25 degrees C on a cloudy day in the British summer time, even with conservatory blinds, it is not unusual for temperatures to reach 40 degrees plus! Clearly this is stifling and unbearable and would leave the conservatory unusable. The temperature needs to be controlled for the comfort of those using the space.

As conservatories are used for many different purposes it is not always convenient to throw open the doors when subject to solar overheating or to drag portable heaters in during colder months. A solution is needed that is part of the household infrastructure. Therefore, air conditioning is an important consideration so the conservatory is not off limits at certain times of the year.

Our project this time was to install an air conditioning unit to provide cooling in summer and heating in winter in this lovely conservatory. We selected the Fujitsu console unit to do the job. This air conditioning unit is non-obtrusive being positioned outside the conservatory and the sleek interior unit blends in beautifully giving temperature control all year round. Installation of conservatory air conditioning units is simple and can be added into the project during conservatory build or afterwards. Either way there is no disruption to the house hold.

Rooftop air conditioning installation in Richmond

Rooftop Air Conditioning Units Installation

Rooftop air conditioning units are commonplace for commercial applications as they are of a lightweight design which does not impact on roof construction and structural supports. The units are also very effective in the performance of cooling, heating and ventilation. They are also easy to install as they are external to the building structure.

Our customer in Richmond selected a modern Fujitsu unit to serve their air conditioning needs. This unit provides optimum efficiency has service friendly features for ongoing maintenance and is durable as it needs to be exposed on a rooftop in all weathers.

One important factor to consider with rooftop installations are noise levels. It is important the noise emitted is within building regulation limits and is not a nuisance to neighbouring occupants of nearby buildings or indeed to the occupiers of the air-conditioned building. As can be seen in the picture, we have installed an acoustic noise reduction panel to reduce any excessive sound.

Much depends on the local environment and structures as if the unit is nearby walls or other barrier, the sound will bounce off and increase noise levels. The line of sight for the noise is determined from the noisiest end (air conditioning unit) and where the sound is received. This could be an office, nearby residential building or other area where the sound could have impact. The acoustic panel bisects the line of sight and the noise is reduced significantly.

We were happy with the results of the noise reduction as was our customer and the building occupants are benefitting from the smooth and efficient operation of the Fujitsu air conditioning unit.

Ceiling Mounted Cassettes Installation in Hoxton, London

Ceiling Cassette Installation in Hoxton

For this project in Hoxton, we were tasked with installing ceiling units or cassettes. Ceiling cassette air conditioning units are mounted on or in the ceiling. While used mostly in smaller spaces, because the cold air falls to the floor, an exceptional amount of air flow coverage is achieved and when the fans are powerful the ceiling cassette air-conditioning unit can cover a substantial area. The units re unobtrusive and the operation is very quiet.

Simply Air Conditioning London - Ceiling Cassette Installation in Hoxton

Ceiling cassette units are great all-round performers with low noise output. There is an outdoor unit that is very quiet and the indoor units are extremely quiet in operation. Customers barely notice them after a couple of weeks of working. They are also very good looking and fit well into a modern, traditional office or retail space. Clean modern lines make them a popular choice in all kinds of businesses.

The installation of ceiling cassette air conditioning units is relatively easy and the installation is uncomplicated especially compared to some types of air conditioning unit. They are compact and are lightweight to manage and they are the same dimensions as a standard office or shop space ceiling tile. The cassette unit is also versatile and allows cool or warm air to be distributed in specific directions. With the addition of adjustable thermostats, air flow control allows the user to enjoy ultimate comfort and keep the environment just right for people within a given space. Ideal for areas where space is at a premium, a ceiling cassette will not take up precious wall space in smaller rooms. Purification filters in the unit can also enhance the environment as the unit acts as an air filter as well which is useful in smaller areas. Add the fact that ceiling cassettes are very economical, it is no wonder this has proved a popular solution with many of our clients.

Air Deflectors Installation, London

London Air Deflector Installation

31 air deflectors sold and installed this week to improve comfort cooling systems in offices.

There is nothing like a comfortable working environment to keep employees motivated and happy. Air conditioning has a large part to play in maintaining that comfort for people. The temperature is centrally controlled either by an office or shop manager or by the Building Facilities Manager in larger buildings. The objective is to have a constant temperature throughout the building.

Sometimes, with air conditioning some employees end up sitting in a draught and become very cold as they are positioned in the chilled air flow from nearby vents, while other employees are enjoying the benefits of a comfortable ambient temperature. This leads to dissatisfaction and impacts on the welfare of the worker. They may be the ones wearing a sweater or coat in an otherwise pleasant atmosphere. It is the responsibility of the employer to make sure the working environment is suitable for purpose and for those that must sit nearby a cold air draught, clearly it is not suitable. In time people can become sick from the constant chill.

Fortunately, there is a solution which not only improves the performance of the air conditioning system but also creates a pleasant environment for those people suffering from the cold air draughts. We were asked to do some rectification work using vent deflectors designed for air conditioning as an easy and quick solution that would also improve performance. This type of install usually provides immediate relief by circulating the air more efficiently around the entire work space eliminating draughts. There are different types of deflector for different air conditioning units made from materials such as plastic or fibreglass.

While the job of the air conditioning deflector is to redirect air along the ceiling to end cold air draughts and breezes by improving the air flow and indoor air quality, more importantly it improves conditions for people in the work place.

Air Conditioning Repair in Victoria, London

Mitsubishi Air Conditioning Repair in Victoria

Our job is not over once we have installed a project, we also provide a robust maintenance service and of course are on hand to repair air conditioning systems whether we have installed a system or not. Usually our maintenance contracts provide regular servicing and maintenance and repairs as necessary, but we also do one off repairs.

We were called in to repair this Mitsubishi air conditioning system and while we had great fun playing with the sophisticated remote-control system, it was soon down to serious business to complete the repairs.

Air conditioners can be complex mechanical structures that depend on a broad spectrum of conditions to work properly. They are measured to meet a calculated load on the installation site. Air conditioning systems are designed to work optimally with specific amounts of refrigerant and air flow. When the balance is upset, problems arise.

There are some obvious signs that a repair is needed apart from if the system stops working completely. Over time it may be noticed that electricity bills are higher than usual, odd smells and musty odours are noticed sometimes and there may be a lot of noise on start up or during operation. Sometimes, dirt around the air grilles will be noticed as well. During power outages for example in stormy weather or if it is a regular occurrence as is sometimes the case in rural areas, this can lead to a failure or damage to the air conditioning components.

We always recommend a maintenance contract as we can ensure the highest quality of service with 24 hours call out to get buildings up and running with the minimum of fuss and bother. Repairs to air conditioning systems are inconvenient, expensive and disruptive to customers and we would rather not do them! Prevention is always better than cure but we are always there at the end of the pone when things do go wrong. We repaired this Mitsubishi system and had the customers up and running in no time.

Unit Installation In Enfield, London

Unit Installation In Enfield.

The project for this office in Enfield began with our usual site survey and project meetings with the client. We documented the existing office and then performed our calculations and drew up the plans required to ensure the most efficient air conditioning system at the best value for the client. Our primary survey looked at the existing building conditions but we also need to know how many people will be seated in the space, the size of the space and the number of windows. All of this information feeds into our final calculations. This project utilised Fujitsu products and involved 9 indoor units connected to 5 outdoor condenser units.

There are several ratings we need to use in the design process. The first is British Thermal Unit Rating (BTU).This rating represents the heat the air conditioning unit can remove from internal space. Higher ratings mean more heat is removed, so defining the correct size is essential for our project. Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) is another rating we use. This one tells us how much energy is needed for the air conditioning device to operate efficiently. Higher EER ratings use less energy but are more expensive to purchase but usually result in cheaper energy bills over a five year period.

Temperature control is useful in office applications. Controls can be manual or programmable and some can be operated by a remote control. It can be useful for building maintenance staff to be able to override the temperature in times of extreme heat or cold. Heat pump technology brings further efficiency to winter heating.

This air conditioning system is typical of most forward thinking offices these days as staff really appreciate a comfortable working environment avoiding some of the usual non-air conditioned office hazards such as wind and fans blowing paperwork around and computers switching off when the heat gets too much. This project utilised Fujitsu products and involved 9 indoor units connected to 5 outdoor condenser units.
