LG Art Cool Gallery

Indoor air conditioning units have not really been known for their aesthetic appeal but all that has changed with the LG Art Cool Gallery unit. This clever piece of design disguises the air conditioning unit as a piece of artwork in a frame meaning there is no need to see the air conditioning unit which can sometimes jar against the décor of a room. As LG say themselves, it is the merging of form and function.

The customisable area on the front of the air conditioning unit allows you to display a piece of artwork, family photographs, or a graphic, which is slotted behind a display glass surrounded by a frame. It is available in a wide variety of finishes, and enables you to switch the artwork whenever you want making it ideal to display a picture of a special occasion in the year or change the artwork to something seasonal. The visible area of the unit is 17” x 17” but this will cater for artwork up to 20” x 20”. The front panel lifts up and out allowing a picture to be inserted or changed very easy indeed.

This single unit requires no ductwork and is perfect used stand-alone. Whether you live in a trendy loft, period home, regular semi or country cottage, the LG Art Cool Gallery will blend in to any environment and look just like a picture on the wall. It is in fact it is an advanced air conditioning unit that is available in 9,000 and 12,000 Btu/h capacities; LG Art Cool Gallery has low noise and efficient cooling to keep any member of the family cool and provides a talking point for your home.

Popular with interior designers and architects for its chameleon qualities to suit any kind of interior, the LG Art Cool is functional and provides an efficient cooling system with the minimum of fuss. This system would be ideal in areas of high humidity such as a study or library in a damp climate as it will help to protect paper and books from mould.

Fujitsu Mini VRF

Fujitsu Mini VRFMany small-scale apartment complexes, retail outlets, and homes need an efficient and reliable air conditioning system that is functional, reliable, and affordable. They do not need complex systems but something simple with ease of control that will keep the people using the space warm in winter and cool in summer.

If you are looking for a compact air conditioning unit then it is worth considering Fujitsu’s offering, the Fujitsu mini VRF from the J-Series. It ticks all the boxes and more for smaller installations. Despite its small size, it is not short on power and it can serve eight indoor air conditioning units from just one outdoor unit with a cooling capacity of 15.2 kW. The outdoor units weigh just 97 kg and are only 900 mm high. They are equipped with a high-performance DC inverter and a newly designed larger fan and double casing bell-mouth construction reduce noise emissions.

Retail premises are often subject to regular upgrading and makeovers and this changes the operating requirements for the individual air conditioning units. If a large scale air conditioning system was installed it would lead to time consuming complexity to upgrade which is what retailers do not want as with store makeovers time is the critical factor. Consequently, the VRF Mini or another VRF system for large premises can be matched quickly and economically to each and every single outlet.

The energy efficient, environmentally friendly VRF Mini can provide for all these variations and more as it allows an extensive combination of indoor and outdoor units according to the premises.

Central Air Conditioning

Central Air ConditionerCentral air conditioning is the ultimate form of air conditioning as it can use a central cooling plant to control the temperature throughout an entire building. With a properly sized installation, central air conditioning can cool everything from a small holiday home with three rooms to huge buildings such as hospitals, office blocks, and airports.

A central air conditioning solution is the most expensive if you happen to be considering an installation in your home. However, also the solution gives the best results. It is versatile and gives the options of cooling the whole building or just parts of it.

 Ducts and central air conditioning

The main unit of a central air conditioning unit produces plenty of cool air through the standard methods of condensing and evaporation, but it is necessary to move this cool air away from the air conditioning unit to be directed to the room where it is required. Fans that are used for a single room air conditioning unit will not work for a central system so the cool air needs to be transported through a network of ducts.

Ducts are like a network of “pipes” that are connected to the air conditioner and extend all through the building to vent openings into different areas. It would be ideal to install the ducting for a central air conditioning system at initial build, but the ductwork can be added later. It usually involves some internal remodelling of walls and structures. A good duct system is critical to the function of a central air conditioner.

Features Of Central Air Conditioner Duct Systems

Warm air needs to be drawn in to the central unit and cool air expelled from it. Therefore, two duct systems are required – supply ducts which route the cool air where needed and return ducts which intake warm air for cooling. Your air conditioning engineer to create the optimum air movement and pressure flow uses complex calculations in planning. This is why it is so important to use a qualified, accredited air conditioning company.

The major advantage that a central air conditioner offers is that duct branches can be included so that fresh air from outside is used rather than recirculated air which has clear health advantages and keeps air fresher and cleaner rather than reusing the same stale air over and over again.

Central air conditioners offer the ultimate comfort. Although more complex and expensive, they offer a total solution giving you total control over the atmosphere and temperature control in you premises. A definite plus point when it comes to marketing a home these days, air conditioning is becoming more sought after by house buyers who even in the UK have realised the benefits of this type of system. Although the cooling properties of the central air conditioning system have been spoken about here, the same system can also provide heating so you have a year round comfort any time of the day or night.

Health Benefits of Air Conditioning

Air Conditioning Health BenefitsMost people think of air conditioning as something to keep them cool on hot days but there are many health benefits of air conditioning, especially if you live in extreme climates of hot and cold. Buying an air conditioner or air conditioning system can make an enormous and positive difference to health. Air conditioning creates a clean and healthy environment, while dealing with problems like allergies, respiratory conditions, and dust. Many suffering with debilitating conditions have seen health improvements from air conditioning, which has greatly improved their quality of life.

Health Benefits of Air Conditioning

Air conditioning has been a breakthrough for health in the living environment but also in hospitals and places of care where cleanliness is essential. The people who achieve most benefit from air conditioning in terms of health are those that suffer the following conditions:

  • Respiratory ailments
  • Allergies to particles in the air such as house dust
  • Uncomfortable living temperature
  • Poor air quality
  • Limited mobility
  • Sinus problems

All kinds of people are subject to poor air quality and the effect it has on them from infants to senior citizens and invalids.

Air and Health

All people have basic conditions in their environment that need managing. Those in excellent health can be subject to the stresses of air temperature and invisible airborne particles. These are present in every sort of human environment and building. Air pollution outside is a valid reason to ensure you are breathing clean air inside.

Air can be stale and heavy with fumes and odours. Basic odours are indicators of poor air quality. These smells also indicate there are chemically active particles in the air. While these situations are not toxic, they are not helpful to respiration. A modern air conditioner or air conditioning system can solve all of these problems.

Temperature and Comfort

Tiredness and general fatigue can be caused by excessive temperatures of cold and heat. It is not unusual to suffer minor but recurrent conditions such as coughs, discomfort, headaches, and colds.

Humidity and temperature have an impact on how the body works. Excessive heat or cold can use up energy stores rapidly. Tiredness is symptomatic of this and often the person is not sure why they are so fatigued. Dehydration can occur in low humidity and when the body is using energy just to cope with the environment it is out of balance and becomes stressed which results in symptoms of headache, stuffiness, and sense of weariness. The body becomes susceptible to infections, which is certainly not productive at home or in the work place

Air Conditioning Benefits Long Term

Putting the body under repetitive stress by making it operate in extreme human environments is stressful on the immune system. Over a long period, for example, trying to work to your best in a stifling hot office in summer, your resistance is worn down and you are vulnerable to infections as well as being hot, uncomfortable, and drained at the end of the day.

Introducing an air conditioner or air conditioning system for the long term will reduce bodily stress over time and make the human environment comfortable to be in. There is definitely an improvement in well being and productivity when the body is kept at an ambient temperature and it makes the home and workplace somewhere people want to be.

Buying an Air Conditioning System for Your Home

Air Conditioning System For HomeBuying an air conditioning system for your home can be a large decision for most home and business owners. There are various manufacturers, different system types and many factors to take into consideration, not just the price. Finding a good air conditioning company that is professional and helpful is the first step to making your decision easier.

Use Professionals

A professional air conditioning company will provide a high quality service at every step of your project from first telephone call through to annual maintenance and servicing. The first thing your air conditioning company will do is to come up with a design that is right for you taking into account the information you supply.

A good company will always explain the breakdown of planning and tasks as well as cost breakdowns for your peace of mind. Your quote will tell you exactly what you are getting and why. As a customer, it is your right to expect attention to detail and a professional company will always supply that level of customer service and leave no stone unturned to accommodate you.

The design will take into account many aspects, all of which your air conditioning engineer will be happy to explain.

These factors must be taken into account:

  1. Heating and cooling loads of the rooms.
  2. Maximise comfort for the occupants.
  3. Easy installation to minimise disruption and cost.
  4. Match cost of system to client budget.
  5. Running costs, including ease of maintenance and electrical consumption.
  6. System type to satisfy the requirements.

A comprehensive quotation should be provided, detailing the following:

  1. Design and drawings.
  2. What the price includes.
  3. What equipment is supplied.
  4. How long installation will be.
  5. Warranties of work and equipment.
  6. Exclusions.
  7. Price.
  8. Payment terms.
  9. Contract information supporting both parties.
  10. Technical information for equipment and materials.

Quality of Installation

The quality of the installation is very important, best quality parts; equipment and installation materials should always be used, as well as qualified professional air conditioning engineers with the right experience for the project. They should adhere to industry guidelines and follow the project installation design.

Never be afraid to ask for testimonials and references, all good air conditioning companies will be happy to provide them and you could even ask to go and see an installation that has been done for another customer and get their point of view. It also gives you the chance to look at the work, see it in operation, and make sure it is a clean quality job. Your air conditioning company will only be delighted to show you previous projects.

Make sure that during the process of your enquiries and early project stages you are happy with the personnel you are working with. Personality clashes do happen and it is better to find someone you can see yourself working harmoniously with, so do not be afraid to walk away in the early stages if you feel the company will not suit. It does not mean the company is bad, it just means you will do better with another company that suits your personality. When you are investing a sum into a project, you need to have peace of mind.

Real Life Escapes Through Air Conditioning Ducts!

air duct escapeWe have all lost count of the endless movies and television serials where the protagonist is either using air conditioning ducts to crawl through to break into a museum or bank to pull off a daring robbery or alternatively prisoners breaking out of prison in daring jail escapes. It makes for riveting, tense and thrilling viewing, but does this really happen in real life? We have searched the web to bring you some real life tales of air conditioning ducts used for dubious purposes!

By Joseph Alexiou (October 25 2011) Prisoner stages elaborate escape through air conditioning system and over wire fences… only to be caught hours later Mail Online retrieved March 21, 2012 from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2053406
Excerpt
“A prison inmate who staged an elaborate escape, was left dismayed after he was captured just hours later.

Leviticus Uriah Taylor, 25, who was being held at the maximum security block at Indian River County Jail in south-east Florida, launched his freedom bid with cellmate Rondell H Reed, 52.

The daring escape on Sunday night saw the two men, both considered highly dangerous, crawl through air conditioning ducts and scale 12-foot fences covered in barbed wire.

But while Reed’s efforts were successful, Taylor was caught just hours later and returned to custody.

Reed, who is facing a second-degree murder charge, and Taylor, who was convicted of first degree murder last month, came up with the plan during the five days they were held together as cellmates.

Their escape is believed to have seen them break into a prison maintenance area, where their overalls were later found.

They would have then had to pass two locked doors before climbing through air conditioning ducts.

The final part of their escape saw them scale a 12-foot high fence topped with barbed wire that surrounds the jail. Investigators believe blankets found nearby were used to protect against the razor wire.”

By Unknown (October 8 2011) Police arrest 4 would-be robbers in Miami Beach retrieved March 21, 2012 from http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/21005067275366
Excerpt
“Miami Beach Police have arrested four armed men accused of attempting to rob a South Florida gas station, early Wednesday morning.

The incident began just after midnight at the Shell Gas Station on 71st Street and Abbott Avenue. Someone alerted police after spotting four armed men with guns putting on ski masks outside of the gas station.

Authorities said the fourth subject used a ladder to climb on to a roof of the restaurant and hid in the A/C duct, where he became stuck. Miami Beach Police Detective Juan Sanchez said, “While on top of that restaurant, he was able to break the air conditioning duct vent system and get into this crawl space.”

The fourth subject was eventually pulled out of the air duct by SWAT team members. They needed to tear open ceiling panels and used a camera to find him. They then broke out ceiling tiles to pull him out by his feet.

No one was injured in this incident.”

A Simple Guide to HVAC

What does the acronym HVAC mean to a nonprofessional? Commonly seen or spoken of, the meaning of these initials is not always clear. HVAC stands for “Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning”. A/C is a sub category of HVAC meaning Air Conditioning. The objective of HVAC is to provide comfort for everyday living, keep air clean in hospitals and laboratories and cool electronic equipment to cite a few applications.

“H” is for Heating

Heating is associated with radiators, furnaces, fireplace stoves, and electric heating. Radiators are fed with hot water from boilers, fireplace and stoves provides radiant heat by burning wood or coal, cast iron stoves heat up a space by means of fossil fuel burning, and electric heaters use the principle of electrical resistance to generate heat. Heating is one of the essentials that we cannot do without.

“V” is for Ventilation

Ventilation refers to air circulation and movement between an open space, and an enclosed space. It is possible to achieve this by natural means (breezes through an open window) or by means of forced ventilation. Ventilation is achieved via chimneys, grilles in walls, blowers, and ventilators. Ventilation is mostly a safety feature to avoid build up of carbon monoxide in an enclosed space when using open fires but also to keep air flowing freely in an enclosed space.

“AC” is for Air Conditioning

Air Conditioning is not just about refrigerant filled air conditioning units. The word “conditioning” refers to conditioning the air by filtering and cooling for the comfort of the occupants in a room. The air conditioning equipment should alter air temperature by heating or cooling, alter the humidity of the air, mix and circulate air, and filter and purify air. Air conditioners are found coupled with heating, and ventilation especially with central air conditioners.

Alter Air Temperature

Equipment, which alters air temperature, by means of cooling is called an air conditioner. It is called a heat pump, if it is used for heating.

Alter air humidity

A conventional air conditioner can alter humidity. When used for cooling, it will also dehumidify. A heat pump will also alter relative humidity as it heats up the air.

Circulate and mix air

Stale and stagnant air is not good for health. Fans can achieve air circulation in its simplest form, which displaces warm air. Ducts and blowers are required for air circulation throughout a whole building. This combination is used with central air conditioners. The conditioned air may then be circulated to designated areas.

Filtration and Purification

Most air conditioning equipment is fitted with filters to filter out dust. Air purification is achieved by activated carbon to remove odours, UV light for removing germs, and HEPA filters, which are high efficiency filters to remove particles from air.

Simply Air Conditioning London are experts at everything HVAC.

Air Conditioning in Dubai -Excess and Engineering Excellence

Dubai refrigerated beachDubai is one of the hottest countries on the planet with the desert temperatures soaring in excess of 50 degrees in summer. One the most excessive Arab Emirates, Dubai boasts the world’s first seven star hotel the Burj Al Arab, Ski Dubai, one of the world’ s largest indoor ski slopes. Some more world first’s are in the pipeline or constructed namely Hydropolis, an underwater hotel complex, Burj Khalifa which is to be the the world’s tallest structure, UAE spaceport, a hub for space travel, and Dubai Land which is to be twice the size of Disney World Florida. These are big plans for a nation of 1.4 million people.

Dubai will also have the world’s first air-conditioned and refrigerated beach when the Palazzo Versace hotel opens later this year.

The Versace philosophy is that its well-heeled guests (or barefoot perhaps?) do not want to walk upon scorching sand. Unlike mere mortals, who hop, ooch and ouch balancing awkwardly on toes across the hot sand or those who are clever enough to invest in a pair of flip-flops, the Palazzo Versace guest will have the luxury of walking across cool sand and be able to lay on it in comfort.

This will be achieved by network of pipes below the beach containing coolant. The swimming pool will also be refrigerated and giant blowers are to be installed to waft a gentle breeze across the beach.
The founder and President of Palazzo Versace said, “We will suck the heat out of the sand to keep it cool enough to lie on. This is the kind of luxury that top people want.”

The 10-storey hotel will have 213 rooms, several with their own internal swimming pools, plus 169 apartments.

Pioneering technology needed to be applied when it came to considering air conditioning options for the Burj Khalifa the tallest man made building in the world.

Controlling heat is extremely important factor in skyscrapers. With the introduction of air conditioning, builders were able to avoid their towers becoming large glass greenhouses cooking the people inside. In the case of Burj Khalifa the dual factors of the Dubai heat which reaches 50 degrees Centigrade in summer and the height of the tower 2716.5 ft (828 m), meant air conditioning on its own would not keep the building cool. A special two-paned window was designed for use in the Burj Khalifa. The outside pane coated with a thin layer of metal deflects ultra-violet radiation and reflects solar heat. The outside pane does not work against infrared radiation so a second pane is coated with a thin layer of silver, which keeps the infrared rays out. The building is covered in 30,000 glass panels; enough to cover 17 football pitches.

It’s quite incredible to think what can be achieved with engineering excellence in air conditioning, and Dubai is currently leading the way. However, for air conditioning excellence in London there’s only one place to go!

Horse Guards Parade in London near Whitehall is used for royal parades and ceremonies. Every morning the ceremony of Changing of the Guard takes place at Horse Guards Parade. The annual Trooping of The Colour is British ceremony at its best and a huge tourist attraction where troops are presented to The Queen. Centrally located, the parade ground is open on the west side, where it faces Horse Guards Road and Saint James Park. To the north side is the Old Admiralty and Citadel, to the east the former headquarters of the British Army and on the south the Foreign Office and rear garden wall of 10 Downing Street. During the Olympic Games, this bastion of pomp and ceremony will transform into London’s very own beach when tons of sand will be imported to provide the courts for the Olympic sport of Beach Volleyball!

The Mall, the long ceremonial route coloured with red oxide that runs between Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace will be lined with spectators not for another Royal wedding but for the Olympic Games. This beautiful tree-lined avenue will be the start and finish point for the Marathon, Walking Race and Cycle Road Race.

The London port of Woolwich has a long military history dating from 1776. It is appropriate that the Olympic Shooting and Archery competitions will take place here. Four temporary indoor ranges for Pistol and Rifle Shooting are built together with outdoor shotgun ranges for Trap and Skeet events. Since 2011 the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery have taken up residence here in new quarters and stables which are home to 75 horses, historic gun carriages and artillery pieces used for displays..

Greenwich Park is the oldest enclosed Royal Park. Situated on a hilltop it has impressive views across the River Thames to the Docklands and the City of London, between Blackheath and the River Thames. The park is home to several historic buildings, including the Old Royal Observatory, the Royal Naval College, the National Maritime Museum, and the Queen’s House. Henry VIII who was born in Greenwich introduced the resident herd of deer to the park. In 1661, The Royal Society was founded because of Charles II’s great interest in science. Sir Christopher Wren was commissioned to build The Royal Observatory. Today Greenwich is a World Heritage Site and is most famous for Greenwich Mean Time. It will have another claim to fame as the Olympic sports of Equestrian Eventing and the equestrian elements of the Modern Pentathlon will take place in Greenwich Park.

Other tourist attractions of note in the greater London area hosting Olympic events will be Hampton Court Palace home and hunting grounds of Henry VIII will be host to the cycle road racing time trials, and Eton Dorney near Windsor and its famous Royal castle will be used for rowing and canoeing.

Quote from one of our happy air deflector free trial recipients:

“Our open plan office houses around 100 people. Air distribution and draft was an issue for some of them prior to fitting air deflectors. Since the fitting we’ve not had a single complaint!”

How we got here

Air conditioning is known to have been applied in Ancient Rome: aqueduct water was passed through walls of houses to cool them. In medieval Persia similar techniques involving the use of cisterns and wind towers were used in the hot season to cool buildings.

Modern air conditioning emerged after advances in 19th Century chemistry, and it was Willis Haviland Carrier who invented and first used a large-scale electrical air conditioning system in 1902.

Air Conditioner Definition

An appliance, unit, system, or machine designed to stabilise the temperature and humidity of air within an area (used for both heating as well as cooling). A refrigeration cycle is the most common method of achieving this although sometimes evaporative coolers are used for comfort cooling inside buildings and vehicles.
