Air Con Maintenance, Service and Repair

It’s become a lot more common in recent years for plumbers or any F-Gas registered tradesperson to install air conditioning units. With demand soaring due to the changing climate and more extreme temperatures this has come as a blessing. However, air con units do require servicing, and maintaining, something which many of these new install engineers won’t necessarily have the expertise or indeed time for.

Therefore air con servicing is where a specialist air conditioning professional is essential. At Simply Air Conditioning London we’ve specialised in maintenance, service and repair of air conditioning units since 2003. So if you’re in the London and Kent area and need your unit looked at or repaired don’t hesitate to give us a call on 020 7870 2333.

It is a legal requirement for business owners, landlords, and facilities managers to comply with F-Gas regulation by having units of certain specification regularly serviced.

There’s no legal servicing requirement for homeowners, but not doing so brings higher likelihood of increased costs in bills (systems become less energy efficient as a result of lack of servicing), equipment malfunction and voided warranties, not to mention poorer quality air.

The F-Gas Regulation

F-Gas regulation mean air conditioning units with at least 3kg of refrigerant must be inspected every year. Are you complying to your statutory check? Do you know how much refrigerant is in your system? Call Simply Air Conditioning London now on 020 7870 2333.

Air conditioning maintenance and repair

Regular, scheduled service known as PPM (or Planned Preventive Maintenance) must be carried out to keep air conditioning equipment in top working order, optimising its accuracy and efficiency. Preventive maintenance reduces any possibility of equipment failing before they actually do, and enhances the reliability of equipment by replacing any worn components prior to them failing.

The undertaking includes regular and routine cleaning, calibrating & adjusting, lubricating, testing, and, where necessary, replacing components and avoiding breakdown. The capability and thorough training of Simply Air Conditioning staff ensures your unit’s equipment is operated with optimum efficiency and its life expectancy is stretched to its maximum potential.

The frequency of the task is dependent upon frequency of usage as well as the unit type. An air conditioning unit used heavily should be checked and cleaned more often than one less often used. The PPM regularity suggested in manufacturers’ manuals are a good guide, but the frequency of usage of an air conditioning unit should be used to dictate the required regularity of maintenance.

Air Conditioning Maintenance FAQ

For most domestic systems, once a year is sufficient. Commercial systems in continuous use – offices, restaurants, server rooms – benefit from two visits per year. Systems with over 3kg of refrigerant must be inspected annually by law.

Unmaintained systems lose efficiency gradually — typically 5–10% per year. Dirty filters and coils force the compressor to work harder, increasing energy bills and accelerating wear. Most compressor failures are preventable with regular servicing.

Yes. Our engineers are trained across all major brands including Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Fujitsu and Panasonic. We may also be able to service older systems from brands no longer sold in the UK.

A standard domestic service visit takes one to two hours. Commercial systems with multiple indoor units may take half a day. We confirm the expected duration when booking.

Installation and maintenance are separate services, but all installation customers are offered a preferential rate on their first maintenance contract.

Quote from one of our happy air deflector free trial recipients:

“Our open plan office houses around 100 people. Air distribution and draft was an issue for some of them prior to fitting air deflectors. Since the fitting we’ve not had a single complaint!”

How we got here

Air conditioning is known to have been applied in Ancient Rome: aqueduct water was passed through walls of houses to cool them. In medieval Persia similar techniques involving the use of cisterns and wind towers were used in the hot season to cool buildings.

Modern air conditioning emerged after advances in 19th Century chemistry, and it was Willis Haviland Carrier who invented and first used a large-scale electrical air conditioning system in 1902.

Air Conditioner Definition

An appliance, unit, system, or machine designed to stabilise the temperature and humidity of air within an area (used for both heating as well as cooling). A refrigeration cycle is the most common method of achieving this although sometimes evaporative coolers are used for comfort cooling inside buildings and vehicles.
